From the Law Library of Alexander Hamilton: A Multi-Generational Legal Dynasty Artifact Signed by the Founding Father and Two of His Sons Williams, William Peere (1664-1736)], Reporter. Reports of Cases Argued and Determined in the High Court of Chancery, And of Some Special Cases Adjudged in the Court of King's Bench. London: Printed by H. Woodfall and W. Strahan for A. Millar; and sold by T. Cadell, 1768. Third edition. Volume II only (of three volumes). Folio (12" x 7-1/2"). [viii], 755, [75] pp. Folio (12" x 7-1/2"). Modern tan library cloth, red and black leather lettering pieces to spine. Endpapers renewed, cloth hinges. External soiling, spine labels chipped and worn. Very Good internal condition. Following a frequent habit, Hamilton split his name across the printed text, writing "Alexander" to the left and "Hamilton" (with his characteristic paraph/flourish) to the right of the printed word "of". James Alexander Hamilton (1788-1878): Signed at the head of the title page. Philip Hamilton [II] (1802-1884): Signed at the head of page 58. Housed in a custom blue half-morocco clamshell case, spine gilt-lettered. $25,000. Historical and Legal Significance A Cornerstone of Early American Jurisprudence: William Peere Williams' Reports were among the most authoritative and highly regarded English legal repositories of the 18th century, considered by legal historian John William Wallace to be "one of the most perspicuous, useful, and interesting repositories of equity law to be found in the language."
