Octavo, 8.4 in. x 7 in., pp. 48. Sweetly inscribed to Berta and Elmer (Hader) and signed by both authors on verso of front free endpaper. Blue cloth boards with black title to front and spine. Boards rubbed from being poorly washed (?). Small de-accension stamp from university library to front pastedown. Tape stains to top of front free endpaper and its verso. Bookplate promoting the Berta and Elmer Hader Library of the University of Oregon tipped in on verso of front free endpaper. Two inch surface scar across title on title page. Light rubbing and very light soiling to dustjacket. One inch closed tear to rear dustjacket flap. Latrobe Carroll (1894-1996) . received his education from Harvard University. Carroll was a member of the Authors League of America, Friends of the Library in Asheville, and the Harvard Club of Western North Carolina. Latrobe Carroll served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was also a writer. He worked for The Century Co. as a member of the editorial staff in 1919 Carroll also worked at the Foreign Press Service as a staff writer in 1920. Then he worked for Liberty Magazine as a member of the editorial staff from 1924-1934. He then became a freelance writer. Ruth Robinson Carroll (1899-1999) . received her education at Vassar College and also attended the Student Arts League from 1922-1924. She also attended Cecelia Beaux's School of Portrait Painting in, 1925. She married Latrobe Carroll on January 24, 1928. . Her career was as an author, artist and illustrator of books. Latrobe Carroll and his wife published their first book in 1935, Luck of the Roll and Go. And the couple wrote their last book in 1975, Hullabaloo the Elephant Dog. The Carrolls wrote at least twenty books, all directed to juvenile readers." (from University of Oregon Special Collections Department) Berta and Elmer Hader, to whom the book is inscribed, were an American couple who jointly illustrated more than 70 children's books, about half of which they also wrote. They won the annual Caldecott Medal for The Big Snow (1948), and recieved the Caldecott Honor Book Award for Cock-a-doodle-doo in 1940 and The Mighty Hunter in 1944.
