no binding. Etat : very good. This elegant tipped-in lithograph from a 1914 publication presents a regal portrait of Queen Mary (18671953), consort to King George V, based on a watercolor by the esteemed Anglo-Irish painter Sir John Lavery (18561941), renowned for his official portraits of British royalty and statesmen. The Queen is depicted with refined precision and a delicate color palette, wearing full ceremonial regalia. She dons a diamond tiara, pearl earrings, and layered necklaces, including an elaborate diamond choker and long rope of pearls. A deep blue royal sash crosses her chest, fastened with the Royal Family Order of King George Vfeaturing a miniature enameled portrait of the King surrounded by diamonds. Her left sleeve bears an embroidered band inscribed "IMPERATR," a Latin abbreviation of "Imperatrix," meaning Empress, echoing the imperial legacy of Queen Victoria. The background is softly washed, focusing all visual attention on Queen Mary's serene expression and aristocratic bearing. The lithograph bears the artist's signature at lower right, inscribed "J. Lavery 1914," authenticating it as a work created during the outbreak year of World War I. At the bottom center is Queen Mary's own autograph, "Mary R." "R" standing for "Regina," the Latin word for queen adding both documentary and collectible value to the piece. The visual quality is refined and stately, with Lavery's characteristically soft brushstrokes and luminous attention to texture enhancing the noble composure of the monarch.
