Martin (1887-1969) was a frequent contributor to Blackwood's and other magazines in the 1920s and 1930s as "Al Khanzir" (Arabic for Pig). He was a pig-sticker in Iraq (see the last item), with long service in India. In later years he was author of a regimental history, The History of the Fifteenth Scottish Division 1939-1945 (1948), and Sunset from the Main (Museum Press, 1951), a fascinating memoir of sport and life in the vanished Raj, which reprints many of these articles (marked above with *). With a presentation copy of the book, inscribed, "With the kindest regards of the author, High Martin". Original green cloth gilt. Very good, some toning, and few margins with minor paper flaws (16 and 17, edges closely trimmed).
