In over four editions (1751-5, 1766, 1774) and more than twenty years of work, Postlethwayt labored on his Universal Dictionary. He extensively added to the work of Jacques Savary des Bruslons and Richard Cantillion. A member of the Royal Africa Company, Postlethwayt argued extensively for the economic advantages of the slave trade to Britain's North American colonies. His work was important for modernizing ideas of public debt, helped justify American Revolutionaries' complaints about Britain's unfair taxes, removing restrictions to trade, and spurred contemporary public debate about economic policies. This is an oversized or heavy book, which requires additional postage for international delivery outside the US.
