Etat : As New. 28 cm; 36 pages in stapled wraps. Facsimiles. Edition limited to 250 copies signed by Lande. Full bibliographical descriptions of 164 books, manuscripts and documents related to the establishment of the Moravian Church in Arctic North America.

Etat : Good. First edition, inscribed by the author. 24 cm; 390 pages, 32 half-tone photographic plates, and folding map. Bound in original black cloth titled in gilt on spine. Very brittle cloth spine and joints exhibit splits at upper joint and spine. FInger tear at head of spine. Inscribed "Good hunting!" and signed by the author on half-title. A signed copy of a fairly scarce title, with care taken against defects in manufacture that plague this edition. Account, based on official records and personal knowledge, of police work in Canada's north from the Klondike gold rush and on. After the Great War (where he fought at Flanders and achieved the rank of Major) Steele took part in the Canadian Government Sovereignty Expedition into the High Arctic of 1925.

Soft cover. Etat : Very Good. 28 cm; [9] (of 18?) leaves loose in printed portfolio as issued. Lacks 9 of the prints listed in table of contents on justification page. Contents include: Etched title page by F. Dubrowolny , engraved plate signed and numbered by Rytir, six original book plates, the last signed by Rytir, and the justification leaf. Collection of contemporary book plates assembled by the Czech graphic designer and engraver Vaclav Rytir (1889-1943). Rytir issued annual collections for several years beginning in the mid 1920s, yet the collections remain very rare. This copy has not survived intact. Edition limited to 100 copies, with signed and dated engraved plate, of which this is #20.

Etat : Acceptable. Albumen-silver print on paper. 255 x 197 mm. Signed and titled in plate. Paper creased in five places. Depicts the serapeum of Saqqara surmounted by a man holding a camel by its bridle, with several figures standing in the shadow of the entrance way.

The explorer and ethnologist Vilhjalmur Stefansson (1879-1962) spent five consecutive record-making years exploring vast areas of the Canadian Arctic after adapting himself to the Eskimo way of life.

Etat : Acceptable. Silver albumen photograph on paper. 275 x 215 mm. Signed and titled in plate. Toned to sepia. Edges a bit chipped in places. Crease across lower right portion of image. Number 149 in the photographer's "Souvenirs d'Orient" series. Felix Bonfils (1831-1885) was an active and prolific pioneer of photography in the Middle East, yet details of his life and work remain obscure. "All we know of Bonfils", said photographic historian Beaumont Newhall, "is that he was a genius." Recent information gathered under the direction of Harvard Semitic Museum curator Carney Gavin shows that Bonfils, a French bookbinder and printer, moved to Beirut with his family in the 1860s. His training in photogravure in France prepared him for his career as photographer in the Middle East, where, together with his wife and son, he enterprisingly produced souvenir photos and books for European travelers. The books were all hand-made, each photograph printed from the original glass negative and pasted into place. This print of a single photograph, never mounted, must have been made for inclusion in a bound volume that never reached completion.

Unbound. Etat : Very Good. 21cm; 4 pages. In 1797, the governor-general of Louisiana and East Florida, the Baron Carondelet, had granted to Elisha Winters, Gabriel Winters, John Price, William Russell, and Joseph Stillwell various grants of lands in the lower Arkansas region. In 1816-17, the House Committee on Public Lands investigated the various claims. The present document is a translation into English of the origianl grant that had been signed by Carondolet at New Orleans in 1797.

Etat : Fine. 12 cm; 60, [1] pages. 13 black-and-white reproductions and one in color. In origianl green boards, with color image mounted to upper board, preserved in original slipcase stamped with artist's autograph. Edition limited to 1000 numbered copies, this copy inscribe "V.S." in place of series number ("Volume Speciale," that is, special copy out of series), inscribed on front free endleaf by publisher Giovanni Scheiwiller in English, dated at Milano, December 1960. All'Insegna del Pesce d'Oro is a historic editorial series founded in 1936, in Milan, by Giovanni Scheiwiller. The series takes its name from a famous Milanese trattoria where Scheiwiller used to hang out with his friends, writers and artists. Scheiwiller had worked with the great Swiss publisher, Ulrico Hoepli, before going off on his own to establish an independent publishing company Books published under the the Pesce d'Oro brand are small format publications inspired by the vest-pocket series of art books published in Paris by Gallimard. By the time this volume was published, the business had been assumed by Scheiwiller's young son, Vanni, yet this volume is signed by the founding father, Giovanni.

Dust jacket discolored along spine, a little frayed along edges, and torn at lower crown. Slipcase strong. Introduction by Moses Hadas; translation by Philemon Holland. #1408 of 1500 copies signed by the illustrator and the printer.

Etat : Fine. 1 leaf, 162 x 135 mm. Cashier's check of the Mechanics and Farmers' Bank made out to Erastus Corning, Mayor of Albany, in the amount of $50,000. Signed on recto by New York Secretary of State (and later Governor, Senatory, and Civil War General) John A. Dix, comptroller Azariah C. Flagg, and Surveyor General William Campbell. Endorsed on verso to chamberlain P.V. Shankland, and signed by Corning. A check $50,000 drawn on the Mechanics and Farmers Bank, payable to Erastus Corning as Mayor of Albany, and endorsed by him on verso. Corning was an American industrialist whose speculations in land, manufacturing, and transportation made him one of the wealthiest men in the United States. His Albany Iron Works provided material for the Union army during the Civil War. The Erie Canal, which linked the Hudson River to Lake Erie, was the Interstate of its day, and the foundation of New York's economic expansion in the first half of the 19th century. The railroads rendered it obsolete, but in 1836 the city fathers of Albany, apparently ignoring that writing on the wall, raised funds to expand the canal from 40 feet wide to 70, and deepen it from 4 feet to 7, enabling it to handle much larger boats carrying much more cargo.

Etat : Very Good. Quarto (26 cm); xxi, 79, [2] pages. Frontispiece drypoint etching by Arthur Ralph Middleton Todd (1891-1966), signed in pencil. Bound in original quarter-leather over marbled velvet cloth boards. Edition limited to 875 copies, numbered in ink (this copy #302). Minor wear to covers. Congreve's arch and still-funny sex comedy in a 20th-century hand-made edition that features a very good engraving by the notable British portrait artist.

Etat : Very good. 25 cm; viii, 505 pages. Copy number 750 of 775, signed in ink by Emil Ludwig. In decorated paper-covered boards, cloth spine with printed paper label. Top edge gilt, fore-edge and bottom edge deckled. Extra printed paper label laid in. Very light foxing on endleaves only. With dedication to Thomas Edison. First English language edition, limited to 775 copies and signed.

41 cm; [13] leaves, including nine full-page color woodcuts by Felix Hoffmann printed from original blocks. Bound in pictorial boards in cloth-bound slipcase. About fine. #338 of 475 copies, signed by the artist.

Etat : Acceptable. 19 cm; 231 pages. Title page in red and black. Autographed on title page by Teige, and initialed by him in pencil on last text page, dated 9 December 1942. Bound in blue cloth decorated in red and gold on upper board by Teige. A bit tired and shaken in binding. Boards spattered. Cover design by avant-garde artist Karel Teige. After welcoming the Soviet army as liberators, Teige was silenced by the Communist government in 1948. In 1951 he died of a heart attack, said to be a result of a ferocious Soviet press campaign against him as a 'Trotskyite degenerate,' his papers were destroyed by the secret police, and his published work was suppressed for decades.

Bound in smooth calf ruled in gilt, preserved in double buckram slipcases. Title label on outer slipcase somewhat sun-darkened; minor abrasions to edge of inner slipcase. Bookplate removed from front pastedown, else an unblemished copy!
