Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book is an exhaustive analysis of the life of Guy de Br� s, a prominent Reformer and pastor of the Reformed Church in the Netherlands. The author draws upon a variety of sources, including Br� s' own writings, to provide a detailed account of his life and work. Br� s was born in Mons, in the present-day province of Hainaut, Belgium, around 1523. He was the son of a dyer and, initially, worked as a painter. However, after having read a Bible that belonged to his parents, Br� s converted to Protestantism and became an ardent advocate for the new faith. In the mid-16th century, the Netherlands were under the rule of the Spanish Habsburgs, who were staunch Catholics. Br� s' conversion to Protestantism, therefore, placed him in a dangerous position. He was forced to flee the country and sought refuge in England, where he met with other Flemish Protestants. It was during his stay in England that Br� s began to write and publish religious tracts, in which he argued for the need for reform within the Church. In 1554, Br� s returned to the Netherlands, and became the pastor of the Reformed Church in Tournai. He was a gifted preacher and his sermons attracted large crowds. However, his activities soon brought him into conflict with the Spanish authorities, who arrested him and sentenced him to death. Br� s was executed in 1567, at the age of 44. Despite his short life, Br� s left a lasting legacy. His writings helped to spread the Protestant Reformation in the Netherlands, and he is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the Dutch Reformed Church. This book provides a fascinating and detailed account of Br� s' life and work. The author has drawn upon a variety of sources to create a vivid and engaging narrative.
