Slow Time presents a selection of over 100 works by British artist David Ward (b. 1951), made over the last forty years. Ward is most widely known for his photographic and light works of the 1980s, performances later in that decade and architecturally-related works using light, glass and sound from the 1990s to the present. This extensive exhibition includes drawings, photography, collage, painted reliefs and film. Shown together for the first time, they reveal lines of continuity that have persisted over four decades, representing Ward's study of the world - that is, of light, the body, the activity of line and the sensitive nature of surfaces. Exhibition at John Hansard Gallery 25 November 2008 - 31 January 2009.

About the book >.>.> A gallery is frequently the meeting place for artist and audience, but only through the work that the artist chooses to show. Behind that work there is often much that goes unseen. This is an unusual exhibition of an unusual artist whose work has eluded classification, often crossing the boundaries of gallery and media through site-specific installation and performance. It comprises previously unexhibited work by David Ward, which has survived the editings of an immaculately ordered studio, and has in one way or another remained especially important to him. As such it offers an intimate insight into an artists' practice and the preoccupations that have underlain his work over the last forty years The exhibition therefore plots an intriguing biographical course, and has been designed to reflect this personal history. It is entirely fitting that the exhibition should be first shown at the John Hansard Gallery as David's career began as a student at Winchester School of Art, now a Scho.
