Synopsis

"A visit to Wine Country revives the soul and soothes the senses," notes author Robin Goldstein, in the introduction to her collection of luscious recipes inspired by the bounty of California's Santa Ynez Valley. These dishes celebrate the pairing of fresh, flavorful seasonal ingredients with the high-quality varietals that have earned renown for this part of Santa Barbara County. Chef Robin draws on her sojourns and travels in Mediterranean countries, as well as family favorites, to create her inventive and mouth-watering cuisine. Bite-size starters, like Crab Beignets and Prosciutto-Wrapped Grilled Peaches are perfect for setting the mood for a party or beginning an intimate dinner. A section on cheese opens with setting up the Ultimate Cheese Board, and goes on to highlight her takes on some creamy classics like Baked Brie with Caramelized Apples and Onions or Oven-Baked Brie Fondue. The sight of the Santa Ynez Valley's fruit-filled vines inspired an imaginative array of grape-infused recipes, from Wine Harvest Grilled Pizza and Grilled Lamb Medallions with Grape Glaze, to a sweet-savory Spanish Grape Tart. Roasted Corn and Crab Chowder, Grilled Scallops, and Parmesan-Crusted Chicken are just a few of the tantalizing dishes that Goldstein has created to pair with white wines. Red wine pairings come into their own with dishes like Syrah-Braised Short Ribs and Fresh Tomato Pasta Puttanesca. And for dessert? Who could resist an Autumn Fruit Compote with Lemon Panna Cotta, a holiday season's Mulled Red Wine Ice Cream, or the ultimate tribute to wine country--Dark Chocolate Wine Truffles. With more than 70 vividly photographed recipes, Chef Robin brings to the table her irresistible passion for sharing fine food and wine with joyous gatherings of family and friends.

À propos de l'auteur

As a professional chef for more than 30 years, Robin Goldstein continues to work her culinary magic by combining unique flavors with local, seasonal products. Throughout her extraordinary career she has sought to perfect intimate, home-cooked experiences that are anything but traditional. Using classic techniques she honed early on at the Culinary Institute of America in New York, she has worked as a caterer, event planner, food writer, instructor, and food consultant. A Washington, D. C. native, Chef Robin grew up in a restaurant-owning, food-loving family, and developed a flavorful Mediterranean cooking style after years of traveling and working abroad. She is both a craftswoman and a true artist in the kitchen, and has shared her recipes and techniques in two previous cookbooks--Small Plates and Crafting a Meal. When she is not busy running her business as a private chef (or cooking for friends), she can often be found developing new recipes for local cooking classes, offering chef demonstrations, or infusing handcrafted products for her proprietary line of culinary salt and spice blends. Surrounded by nature and inspired by the scenic beauty of the local mountains, she lives in an oak-shaded neighborhood in California's Ojai Valley.
