HjCRIM FATHERS Dates have been given in New Style, except that for convenience of verification I have given my references to the English State Papers and the Plymouth Records as they are given in the Calendar of State Papers, and in the 1855 edition of the Records respectively. Much of the actual writing has been done out of reach of a good library, and this must be my apology for any imperfect references. I should like to thank Miss Burrows, St Hilda s Hall, and Mr E.
