Of the many passengers, William Hooper, age 18, was aboard. Reseach from the author shows this William Hooper was destined to become the father of many of the Hooper's in America. Starting with William Hooper, this book traces his line through eight generations, and includes an index for easy reference.

In England and in America, in the early records, the surname of Hooper is spelled in various ways. In England, we have the names as "Hope, Hoope, Hupper, Hopper, and Hooper." It is probable that the surname of Hooper was first used in England about the year 1275. There is no record to show that it is older than this date. Whether the name was originally derived from a "trade" is not known.
