The familiar rhythm of Judy's prayers immediately enveloped me in love. Many years have passed since the only thing that got me through the day was repeating the words of these prayers of these prayers and reading Judy's newest prayers put me right back in that safe place I had found years ago. Many of us are survivors of abuse and regardless of the kind or source of that abuse, these prayers, read over and over, will connect with the love they need to hold them up when dark times threaten. Diane Dicranian Mercer, Maine When your heart is crying out to God, when you begin to pray, do you sometimes feel overwhelmed and at a loss for words? Do the prayers you know by heart somehow do not always express your deepest pain, your most fervent yearnings, or even your strongest Love? "Crying Out to God in the Manner of the Lord's Prayer" by Judy Brutz is a book you will be grateful for. The author has followed Jesus' teaching to his disciples when he guided them to "pray this way." She has opened her heart to hear God's own guidance in praying well as to know God's loving, healing presence in prayer. She shares with us words that have been God's gift to her when she cried out to God. These prayers can open our ears to hearing more clearly "The Still Small Voice Within" speaking to us. At the same time, we may become more aware of God listening to us, really listening - to our cries for help, for healing, for forgiveness, for understanding, for love. With these prayers as guides, we may open up a new intimacy and freedom to share with God the full range of our experiences. The Reverend Margaret Y. Weiner Episcopal Diocese of Iowa To cry out is human. To cry out to God is a statement of faith. To cry out to God in the manner of the Lord's Prayer is to draw deeply - from the Spirit within and without, from a lifetime of spiritual discipline responding to God. Twenty years in ordained ministry has placed me countless times in holy space with people in distress. The prayers, the rhythm of prayer has shaped life and faith, provide a sure foundation in response to God. The Lord's Prayer: its rhythm, its movement, its powerful affirmation has been ingrained more deeply in our souls than any other prayer across the Christian traditions. As Judy offers reflection in this manner, her insights are rich with wisdom: knowledge borne of experience. She is open and vulnerable and invites the same from the reader. Judy leads the reader on a journey toward healing and wholeness in God: the Peace beyond human understanding. I commend her work to you. I commend God's strong Peace as well. The Reverend Stephen J.
