Synopsis

Relive the excitement of drag racing’s golden era with Drag Racing’s Quarter-Mile Warriors: Volume II by veteran author Doug Boyce.

From the late 1950s through the 1970s, drag racing fans were captivated by cars that looked and felt more relatable than the high-tech machines of today. Early Pro Stock cars resembled street vehicles with big slicks and massive engines, while modern versions resemble fighter jets—spectacular but far less familiar. During the golden age, the cars were simpler to understand, easier to connect with, and often just one step removed from the vehicles people drove every day.

But as technology advanced and sanctioning bodies changed class rules, many legendary cars became obsolete almost overnight. Some were stored away, dismantled, or parted out, while others continued to compete at small or vintage events across the country. The question of what became of these machines is answered in this comprehensive volume.

Drag Racing’s Quarter-Mile Warriors: Volume II chronicles more than 80 of the most iconic cars from that golden era, including Rail Cars, Funny Cars, Altereds, Junior Stocks, and Super Stocks. Presented in a unique “then and now” format, this book blends vintage and modern photographs to tell the full racing stories of these legendary machines. It’s a must-have for any drag racing enthusiast who longs for the raw, relatable, and unforgettable cars of the sport’s most celebrated decades.
