Running a small business is hard. Managing people should not make it harder.
Too many small business owners end up managing staff issues reactively — a performance problem left too long, a difficult conversation avoided, a complaint handled informally, a resignation that comes out of nowhere, or a people decision made under pressure that creates bigger problems later.
What Small Business Gets Wrong About People is a practical, straight-talking guide for business owners, managers and leaders who want to lead people well without becoming corporate, overcomplicating the process, or needing a full internal HR team.
Drawing on real-world people management experience, this book explains the common mistakes small businesses make with hiring, communication, performance, accountability, culture and compliance — and, more importantly, what to do instead.
Inside, you will learn how to:
This is not a legal textbook and it is not theory for theory’s sake. It is a grounded, accessible guide for leaders who want a business that is easier to run, safer to manage and better for the people in it.
Whether you employ a handful of staff or lead a growing team, this book will help you move from reactive people management to a more confident, consistent and defensible approach.
Because when small business gets people right, everything works better.
