Claude Choules was born on 3 March 1901 in Pershore, Worcestershire, and emigrated to Australia in 1926. Married to Ethel for 76 years until her death in 2003, Claude had 3 children, 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters. He died peacefully in his sleep on 5 May 2011.

Scarce sgnature from the last known combat veteran of World War I serving in the Royal Navy; the last military witness to the German Fleet scuttling at Scapa Flow; the last combat veteran to have served in both world wars and the last seaman from The Great War. Choules served in the Royal Australian Navy during WWII. In 2011 the landing ship HMAS Choules was named after him, which was only the second Royal Australian Navy vessel named after a sailor. Unique scarce item for the Great War collector, especially since Choules often simply signed his ititials "C.S.C." not a full signature. Note: No International orders for this item.
