The Kafa people are found in South-West parts of Ethiopia. These people are called Kafacho and their language is called Kafi Noonoo.Kafa is the homeland of coffee and has a dense forest which is counted as the heart of Ethiopia. Kafa people have long preserved tradition which has been transferring from generation to generation in the form of oral literature like proverbs. This book throws insight into the functions and formal and stylistic features of Kafa proverbs.The author obtained these proverbs by contacting the local people who know the Kafa culture and oral tradition very well. He also observed the contextual use of proverbs availing himself in the socio cultural practices of the Kafa people. The proverbs are analysed in relation to Kafa folk culture and thus the analysis reflects the socio cultural realities of the Kafa people portrayed through their proverbs. This book can be a stepping stone to the field of Kafa folklore. This is because Kafa folklore has not been formally studied.

Mesfin Wodajo was born in Kafa, Ethiopia in the year 1986. He studied his B.A in Foreign Language and Literature (English) in Addis Ababa University and his Master’s Degree in English Literature in Bahir Dar University. For the last four years he has been lecturing in the department of English Language in Mizan Tepi University, Ethiopia.
