Synopsis
Through blood, sweat, tears, and writhing, bikini-clad bodies, this book compiles the best images of Theo Ehret, an unsung giant of sports photography. From the mid-1960s through the early 1980s, Ehret chronicled the matches at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in L.A. as well as the erotic sub-genre of “apartment wrestling.”
Through the weigh-ins, the injuries, the backstage brawls, and the captivated crowds, Ehret’s images capture all the action and the atmosphere of the Grand Olympic Auditorium, where the likes of André the Giant, Killer Kowalski, The Sheik, Gordman and Goliath, and Jesse “The Body” all punched their way to stardom. Alongside the Grand Olympic shots are the dramatic apartment wrestling images, a male fantasy phenomenon of bare breasts and buttocks, long, strong limbs and staged passions.
An interview with Ehret adds his personal commentary to both sides of the wrestling scene, the legends he met along the way, and the interplay of fantasy, reality, and photography.

À propos des auteurs
Cameron Jamie, nacido en 1969, es un artista visual estadounidense que ha expuesto por todo EE UU y ampliamente en Europa. Su trabajo artístico acerca de la lucha libre ha formado parte de numerosas obras. Jamie es, además, experto en el tema de la lucha libre profesional y la «lucha libre en apartamentos» en Norteamérica.
El artista Mike Kelley (1954-2012) se dedica a la performance, la instalación, el dibujo y la pintura, el video, el sonido y la escultura. Inspiradas en investigaciones históricas, fuentes culturales de masas, la teoría psicológica y la revista Sex to Sexty, sus obras de arte aluden tanto al arte culto como a tradiciones vernáculas.
Theo Ehret (1920-2012) fue el fotógrafo en plantilla del Grand Olympic Auditorium, en el centro de Los Ángeles, desde mediados de la década de 1960 hasta principios de la de 1980. En su evocadora obra retrató a las enormes personalidades de la lucha libre de la época ―incluidos Muhammad Ali y André the Giant, George Foreman y Roberto Durán, entre otros―, además de fotografiar el subgénero de este deporte conocido como «lucha libre en apartamentos».
