Claudio Girola (1923?1994) was one of the fellow travelers on the ?Travesía de Amereida? and ultimately co-founder of the ?Ciudad Abierta?, for which he produced numerous sculptures. The formative protagonist of the Amereida projects was already one of the main representatives of the artistic avant-gardes in Latin America in the 1950s, who had intensively and controversially confronted the wasteful tendencies of post-war modernism both there and in Europe. The fact that ?Ciudad Abierta? follows on from the Ulm School of Design in its very own way, but above all differs clearly from it ? ?Ciudad Abierta? was far removed from the claim of industrial utilization ? is probably also thanks to Girola, who maintained an intensive correspondence with Max Bill, the co-founder of the Ulm School. As early as 1945, Girola was a co-founder of the Asociación Arte Concreto-Invención, which published the journal ?Arturo? At the beginning of the 1950s, he lived in Milan and Paris and was at times an assistant to Georges Vantongerloo. (Renate Treydel, AKL LV, 2007, 252.)
