A letter to the President of the Boston Educational Society, reading in part: "Amid a crowd of engagements, the answer due your obliging favor of the 5th has been for a few days forgotten. I shall regret this the more, if it has delayed the publication of your Society's Report & the Addresses - which with one exception I long to see. My own I hope you will readily excuse. It was but partly written: &, could I now remember how the chasms of the broken manuscripts were filled, I do not think it would enhance the value of your publication at all." Born in Norwich, Connecticut, to American Revolutionary War Brigadier General Jedidiah Huntington and Elizabeth Moore, Rev. Daniel Huntington (1788-1858) spent most of his childhood in New London, where his father held the office of Collector of the Port. He attended Brown and later Yale, where he graduated in 1807. He was ordained pastor of the Congregational Church in North Bridgewater, Massachusetts in 1812. He married first, Mary Hallam Saltonstall, Alma French, and lastly, Sarah Sage Rainey, and had seven children. He is buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery, in New London, Connecticut.
