Critic and bibliographer Bernard Karpel lauded Hamlin's Latrobe monograph as the "definitive biography of 'America's first professional architect.'" An architect and renowned architectural historian, Talbot Hamlin won the 1956 Pulitzer Prize for Biography as well as the Alice Davis Hitchcock Award by the Society of Architectural Historians. Although not a direct student of Frank Lloyd Wright, architect Theodore van Fossen (1919-2010) was a Wright-devotee and drew heavily upon organic architecture and Usonian concepts in his commissions with departures from Wright's pure horizontal line necessitated by construction convenience as well as occasional geometric experiments as to angles and verticality as well as nods to the influence of Philip Johnson and the International Style. In partnership with husband and wife developers and fellow Wright enthusiasts Martha and Richard Wakefield, Ted van Fossen planned and designed most of the fifty-three Usonian-themed residential structures in the landmark Rush Creek Village community of Worthington, Ohio, a development started in 1954 running into the 1970s and so acclaimed for its unity and harmony of design that it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in August 2003. Van Fossen's personal papers, drawings, etc. are held by the University of Minnesota Libraries' Northwest Architectural Archives. The book's inscribees, Sue and Sam T. Martin of Great Falls, Virginia, commissioned Ted Van Fossen to design their residence and evidently became close friends with the noted architect as well. N° de réf. du vendeur CVA-00607
