Some edge sunning of wrappers and a few stains on rear; otherwise a very good copy with a clean interior. 1923 signature on front wrapper. Illustrated throughout by text figures. A title given to the great collections of Egyptian funerary texts. These were spells and incantations, hymns and litanies, magical formulae and names, words of power and prayers found on the walls of pyramids and tombs and painted on sarcophagi and rolls of papyri. Signed at the end, E. A. Wallis Budge, Department of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities, British Museum. Ernest Alfred Wallis Budge (1857-1934) Egyptologist and philologist came from humble origins but, with a self taught capacity for oriental languages, he was enabled to study at Cambridge. After entering the British Museum in 1883 he transferred his principal interest from Assyrian to Egyptian, and made numerous field trips of Egypt and Iraq.
