A propos de cet article

A song broadside concerning the alleged affair between Rev. Henry Ward Beecher, a gifted orator and sometime resident of Peekskill NY and the wife of Theodore Tilton, which first was made public in 1872 and culminated with Beecher's trial in 1875. He was the brother of Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of "Uncle Tom's Cabin". The Beecher-McFadden Estate is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is opposite Beach Shopping Center. A song (without the music). The first line is "The Beecher scandal's all the rage." OCLC: 27879678 states that it is similar in format and typography to a number of songs published by Bell & Company of San Francisco in the 1870s; whoever the publisher was, the imprint was possibly left off because of the suggestive nature of some of the lyrics. Within a border of typographical ornaments. Broadside; printed area 23 x 9 cm on paper 26 x 11.5 cm. A light tidemark across the middle and light marking. Oxford Ballads Online V30377.
