Brown cloth blocked and lettered in black on the front cover, and lettered in gilt on the spine; cloth lightly rubbed, with a tiny light stain near the front top corner; top edge uncut; small section at the head of the leading edge lightly stained, resulting in a small light tidemark to the front endpaper and top corner of the frontispiece; a very good copy. 'Publishers' Note: The first edition of this work was privately printed by the author for circulation in South Australia only. This new and enlarged second edition may therefore be regarded virtually as a new work'. Indeed it is; the 1878 publication, 'Early Experiences of Colonial Life in South Australia', contains reminiscences of the period 1836 to 1842 (and in far greater detail than in this rewritten 1884 edition). Provenance: Charles Pearcy Mountford (1890-1976), Australian anthropologist and photographer, with a gift inscription signed by Harold Sheard on the verso of the front free endpaper ('''Monte" in appreciation | From Harold Sheard | Pt Elliot 5/7/45').
