Virginia Woolf. Jacob's Room and The Waves: Two Complete Novels. New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1959. A Harvest Book, HB 37. Trade paperback, 371 pp. Cover design by Kerry O'Gorman. Priced $2.25 ($2.50 in Canada). Early Harvest Books double edition uniting two of Woolf's landmark modernist novels: Jacob's Room (1922) and The Waves (1931) in one volume. Jacob's Room, her first experimental work, reconstructs a man's life through the impressions of others and fragments of consciousness, a technique that foreshadows Mrs. Dalloway. The Waves, her most daring narrative, weaves six interlaced soliloquies into a lyrical meditation on identity and time. Both texts are reprinted here under Leonard Woolf's copyright renewals (1950 and 1959). A contemporary purchase receipt dated 1 SEP 1960 from S.W. Arts, Truckee, California, is laid in. Condition: Very Good. Light age toning to wraps and spine; faint edgewear and small corner crease to rear; interior clean and unmarked, binding sound. Edition details: Copyright © 1923, 1931; renewals © 1950, 1959 by Leonard Woolf. Printed in the United States of America. A Harvest Book issued by Harcourt, Brace & Company. Series list on final leaf shows HB titles through #37 (this volume). Virginia Woolf (1882-1941) was a central figure of the Bloomsbury Group and one of the most influential writers of the twentieth century. Her novels including Mrs. Dalloway, To the Lighthouse, and The Waves revolutionized narrative form through stream-of-consciousness technique and psychological interiority. Woolf also advanced feminist literary criticism in her essays A Room of One's Own and Three Guineas, profoundly shaping modern thought on art, gender, and identity. N° de réf. du vendeur F.WOO.1959.1
