The Knickerbocker, or New-York Monthly Magazine, was a literary magazine of New York City, founded by Charles Fenno Hoffman in 1833, and published until 1865. The circle of writers who contributed to the magazine and populated its cultural milieu are often known as the "Knickerbocker writers" or the "Knickerbocker Group". The group included such authors as William Cullen Bryant, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Oliver Wendell Holmes, James Russell Lowell and many others. The articles featured fine arts in particular with occasional news, contemporary writing, editorials and a few full-length biographical sketches. Alphabetical Index, Literary Notices. CONDITION: Volumes VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII; pages number approximately 540 in each. All volumes soundly bound in half brown marbled boards, gilt title and volume numbers on maroon leather spines. Original binding is very good with normal wear to corners and edges. Some spotting and rubbing, small cracks on leather spines. Volume IX stained front of leather spine.
