At a Meeting of the Ratepayers Held in the Vestry of the Parish Church, Kirkby Lonsdale, on Saturday 27th August, 1859, for the purpose of laying a Rate for the neccessary repairs of the Fabric, and other customary charges, for the due performance of the Divine Service. .

Poster. Framed, 545mm x 255mm, and glazed. Printed black on white paper on one side only. Light creasing and a couple of spots otherwise a very good plus copy of seemingly unrecorded ephemera. The poster gives notice of the Poll, which is to take place in the Church on 1st September at 10am, it was Proposed by Mr R.S. Picard, and Seconded by Mr. Thomas Farrer. However, an amendment was proposed by Mr. John Tennant and seconded by Mr. Harrison - 'That no Rate whatsoever be laid.' There then follows a list of sixty six names, with occasional places of residence, that pledge[ed] themselves - 'to support the above proposal' made by Messrs Picard and Farrer. The Church referred to in this poster is now known as St. Mary's Church locaated in Kirkby Lonsdale , Cumbria, the oldest parts of the Church are Norman. The Cumbria Archives Service Catalogue CASCAT (on-line 6/2025) does not, seemingly, trace this poster. N° de réf. du vendeur 001095
