Ambiguity and contradiction are the twin hallmarks of the paintings, drawings and films of Micha l Borremans (b. 1963). He deploys his technical virtuosity to create apparently familiar scenes, which on closer inspection have an unsettling effect. Working in series is a recent development in Borremans' oeuvre.
