In this real life drama chronicled by five newspapers, television news, and radio; the evolution from citizen to petitioner to candidate is portrayed with exquisite revelations of the fight of the few for the many juxtaposed to the incumbent politicians’ attempt to preserve the power of the few at the expense of the many. The incumbent politicians’ wavering opinions of the fundamental right to vote might be humorous but for the deceptions they exploited. The tactics of the incumbents to deflect, the results of an initial petition shocks the conscience. The incumbents ignored the clear voice of over a thousand voters who expressed their support for their City Council, the incumbents, to do the right thing. While one incumbent expressed support for the council to act the other members scurry to quash his opinion and preserve the status quo. At one point the petitioner requests the council reach out to the Florida State’s Attorney General with a written request for a legal opinion. For fear the shroud of their clique would be lifted by a higher authority they deny the request. Thus another avenue for a constructive resolution was closed.
