Two volumes in one: xix + 395pp; viii + 427pp, contemporary half roan (worn), pebbled cloth boards, spine renewed mounting the original backstrip with raised bands and the original maroon gilt-lettered ttle label; with the bookplate of the University College of North Wales to the front pastedown and the manuscript inscription of the donor Dr Evans, his name also inked to the two title pages, neat library stamp to the title page of the first volume, a few pencilled marginalia, a good copy. Mrs. Meer Hassan Ali (born Biddy Timms) was an Englishwoman who married a translator for the East India Company during his time in England. Shortly after their marriage, she moved to his family?s home in Lucknow, where she lived for over a decade. Her foundational work provides a remarkable 19th Century account of daily life in Muslim society in northern India. N° de réf. du vendeur 223234
