Red and black labels are stamped in gilt lettering and lined in gilt along each hub. On a shelf, this set spans 2.5 inches. VOLUME I: Is divided into three books with subsequent chapters within this volume. Topics include: Our instinctive principles of action; our appetites; our desires of.knowledge, society, esteem, power and superiority; our affections.general observations, of kindred, of friendship, of patriotism, of pity to the distressed, of resentment and the various other angry affections grafted upon it; Our rational and governing principle of action; Of a prudential regard to our own happiness/self-love; Of the moral faculty; Analysis of our moral perceptions and emotions; Of moral obligation; Of certain principles which cooperate with our moral powers in their influence on the conduct.of decency, character, sympathy, the sense of the ridiculous, and of taste; Of the various branches of our duty; Of the duties which respect the deity, principles of natural religion, and of the existence of deity; and of the foundations of our reasoning from the effect to the cause, and the evidences of active power exhibited in the Universe. xi, 296 pp. VOLUME II: Is divided into two books with subsequent chapters and an appendix. Appendix follows at the end. iv, 384 pp. CONDITION: Overall VG. External cover shows general wear. Inner hinges of Volume I are starting, yet all four boards are attached, and bindings are sound. Leaves have evenly toned and are foxed throughout. Some dampstaining at the corners, but does not impede on the text. Predominantly unmarked, except for an occasional mark in pencil, and previous owner's name written in both period ink and in pencil on the title pages, and within endpapers.
