Eight volume set overall in Very Good condition with stunning green morocco bindings with intricate still-bright gold tooling on front and back boards as well as spines, which contain five raised bands, set bound by Botheran & Co. of Tower Street, London (their small stamp on the top of the pastedowns of each volume). Edges are bright gilt and each volume has its black bookmark ribbon. Each volume also contains numerous exquisite engravings with protective tissue coverings, frontis of Byron in Vol I, a nice engraving of his friend Shelley in Vol VI, which also has a lovely engraving of Byron aged 19. There are varying degrees of rubbing to the extremities of the individual volumes, though the boards on the whole are otherwise very clean and largely blemish-free. Some of the corners are mildly bumped, there is light toning to some of the end papers and some foxing around the engraved pages, but very little to the text pages themselves. Vol III has a dark line running across the front board, Vol VII a similar scrape, though with no loss of material. most of he volumes have the name of the owner "John Day Esq(?) Tottenham, Feb 24th 1830) written on the title page. This might very well be the famous botanist John Day, who lived in Tottenham at the time, but we have no way of verifying this.
