Item description from seller

297, [1] pages. 5238 is the number of men and women from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, who seed in the Armed Forces during the World War. Two small red ink marks noted on the unnumbered third page. While not a history of the activities of the men and women from Lancaster County who served in the U.S. armed forces during the First World War, it is a military record of the officers, enlisted men and nurses who went out from the county. It was hoped that it would serve to place in the hands of the interested public an authentic record and thus preserve it for the time being. So far as the committee knows or can ascertain this record herewith published is correct and complete. It was based on information supplied by the Records Division of the Adjutant General's department in Harrisburg, Penna. in conjunctions with the Adjutant General's office of the War Department, Washington, D. C. This is an almost irreplaceable compilation of interest to genealogical researchers, military historians, and state and local historians, as well as social historian interested in tracing issues and activities from the pre-war period into the post-war period up to the time of the Second World War.
