A propos de cet article

Large and impressive mezzotint of Prince William, Duke of Gloucester (1689-1700), who was the son of Princess Anne, later Queen of England, Ireland and Scotland from 1702, and her husband, Prince George, Duke of Cumberland. The English Parliament did not want the throne to revert to a Catholic, and so passed the Act of Settlement 1701, which settled the throne of England on Electress Sophia of Hanover, a cousin of King James II, and her Protestant heirs." (Wikipedia). Oval portrait 11 5/8 x 9 1/2". Impression mark 13 5/8 x 9 7/8". Small but acceptable margins. Trimmed close to the impression line, a little even toning. A small rub and scratch in black ground of oval, a small closed nick in the upper right edge repaired archivally. The initial "G" of the artist faint otherwise a strong impression.…
