Taber is known for his commercial photographs and albums of California, though many of his photos of Yosemite were reproduced from the photos of Carleton Watkins, whose studio he took over after it was lost to creditors. He lost his own studio, gallery, and negative collection in the 1906 earthquake, thus ending his career.
