A scarce copy of this handsome first UK edition with striking dustjacket designed by Wendy Des Moulins. Hesse [1877-1962] was an extremely popular philosophical author in his native Germany, despised by the Nazi regime and, despite winning the 1946 Nobel Prize for Literature, little-known internationally during his lifetime.
