Newton swork; for the Enumeratio linearum tertii ordinis, originally printed as an appendix to the treatise on Optics, and subsequently in the Opuscula, has not hitherto been published in a separate form. In 1717, Mr. Stirling, of Balliol College, Oxford, published his commentary on this work, entitled II- lustratio tractatus D. Newtoni de enumeratione linearum tertii ordinis; but this book, though reprinted at Paris in 1797, is now scarce, and beyond the reach of the general reader.
