Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Good. Etat de la jaquette : Good. 1st Edition. "THE JURY OF DEATH - Twelve Against The Underworld" by Robert Collyer Washburn with its original dust jacket. 1930 1st edition; Published by Doubleday, Doran & Company for Detective Story Club, Inc.; Garden City, New York. The book is a proto-cyberpunk/near-future sci-fi crime thriller set roughly 20 years into the future (the 1950's from the perspective of 1930). The story takes place in a fictionalized, near-future version of Chicago called Cayuga, which is entirely overrun and controlled by the mob. A group of citizens (the "Twelve" referenced in the subtitle) band together to take a vigilante stand against the criminal underworld dominating their city. Because it was written as speculative fiction, the book highlights advanced mid-century technology. It features widespread commercial use of television, advanced transportation like autogyros (early concepts of helicopters), and a sci-fi stun weapon used by the villains that knocks victims out without killing them. Condition: Clean front cover and spine; some very light scuff lines at the bottom of the back cover. The bottom-right corner of the front cover is bumped. Tight binding. Both covers are firmly attached. There is a crack along the hinge between the rear end paper and pastedown resulting in the back cover being just a both shaky. The text pages are in nice condition - clean with only a small, very light stain at the outer margin of page 141. Light tanning to the end papers and pastedowns from the jacket flap. Overall the book is in Good+ condition. The dust jacket is un-clipped with the stamped price (" .49 ") on the front flap; " 49 " has been written below the author's last name on the spine; light soiling to the back cover - a bit heavier soiling on the front cover and spine; tiny bits missing at the top/bottom edges of the spine, and at the rear flap crease corners.overall the jacket is in Good condition. (The dust jacket comes with a clear, protective sleeve - not shown.).…

Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. Neuware - 'Prayer for Profit: Being the Colorful Story of Our Pilgrim Fathers' offers a vivid and engaging examination of the men and women who established the Plymouth Colony. Robert Collyer Washburn delves into the complex motivations behind the Pilgrim migration, exploring the intersection of deep-seated religious conviction and the practical economic realities of 17th-century life. This narrative history traces the group's origins in England, their brief sojourn in Holland, and their perilous journey across the Atlantic aboard the Mayflower. By highlighting the human elements of the story, Washburn provides a portrait of the settlers not merely as austere religious figures, but as determined individuals facing immense hardship in a new world. The work covers the foundational years of the settlement, the development of their community, and their interactions with the indigenous populations and the environment.'Prayer for Profit' serves as a compelling account of one of the most pivotal chapters in American history, shedding light on the spirit of perseverance and the pursuit of a better life that defined the early colonial experience. It is an essential read for those interested in the social and economic underpinnings of the New England settlement. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible.
