Henderson (1914-1996), was a poet and ballet dancer who for years staged dance and drama programs that became regular summer events in Marin County, north of San Francisco. She was born in Cambridge, England, the daughter of F. M. Cornford, a professor of Greek philosophy at Cambridge and a widely-published author, and his wife, a poet and granddaughter of Charles Darwin. Her brother was the poet John Cornford. She married Joseph Henderson, a Jungian psychiatrist, who was renowned for his pioneering work in bringing Jungian analysis to the Bay area. Included is a laid in 4-page Program to a dance, drama, & music performance given in honor of the Henderson's, dated August 29, 1993. Paperback. Etat : new. Paperback. A collection of fifty folktales, which features traditional folktales and a number of popular Finnish jokes and anecdotes, this anthology is an excellent introduction to the rich oral tradition of Finnish storytelling for both the general reader and for students of folklore. As in other countries, skilled storytellers were often representatives of the itinerant trades such as cobblers, tailors, lumberjacks, and peddlers, but due to its relative geographical isolation, storytelling as a living tradition was preserved longer in Finland when compared to other countries whose local oral traditions were considerably diminished by the impact of external cultures. A collection of fifty folktales, which features traditional folktales and a number of popular Finnish jokes and anecdotes, this anthology is an excellent introduction to the rich oral tradition of Finnish storytelling for both the general reader and for students of folklore.
