Buch. Etat : Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Rural areas suffer from inadequate infrastructures, low web connection, lack of human capital, and skill gaps, which severely limit their ability to engage fully with the digital transition. To address these pressing barriers, it is necessary to rethink an approach to innovation that cannot be linear but should be characterised by flows of information and knowledge exchanges involving relations within all actors in the territory. This open access contributed volume explores how innovation is reshaping rural agriculture through multi-actor interactions among farmers, cooperatives, institutions, researchers, businesses, and rural communities. Through empirical case studies developed within European and national research projects, the volume examines how these actors collaboratively navigate digital and green transitions, negotiate governance arrangements, and co-create knowledge and innovation within diverse territorial contexts.Chapters investigate rural innovation ecosystems through themes such as digitalisation, Living Labs, Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS), governance, social learning, sustainability transitions, and collaborative innovation processes. Combining qualitative and quantitative approaches, the contributions explore how innovation emerges through experimentation, negotiation, and interactions between local knowledge, technologies, institutions, and policy frameworks. Particular attention is given to multi-actor networks and governance mechanisms that support more inclusive and sustainable rural transitions. It will be of great interest to scholars, policymakers, and practitioners working on rural development, agricultural innovation, sustainability, and digital transition.…

Hardback. Etat : New. Small farms represent important components of food systems and rural areas, as sources of occupation and livelihood, factors of socio-economic diversity, cradles of grass-roots innovation and experimentation. Their capacity to adapt and to contribute positively to societal challenges depends on the strategies they can develop and their ability to innovate. The book provides an in-depth exploration of the determinants, dynamics and outcomes of rural and agricultural change processes, with a special focus on the role of small and family farming. Covering both the system and the farm level of analysis, the authors offer a comprehensive view of approaches and models capable to grasp different complementary aspects of the development trajectories followed by farms, food systems and territories facing multi-dimensional drivers of change and exposed to a range of vulnerability factors. The emerging characters and roles of innovation networks and social learning, as well as the decision-making processes at the farm level are explored in particular depth, with attention to the multi-dimensional societal expectations vis-à-vis agriculture, small farms and rural areas, with specific attention to food and nutrition security concerns.…

Taschenbuch. Etat : Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book presents the European Common Agricultural Policy by tracing its crucial stages from its conception to the present days. It reconstructs the negotiating processes that have taken place at the political and institutional level over the years. At the same time, the book brings together the results of analyses made by agricultural policy scholars to propose solutions, and to evaluate the policies adopted and the results they produced. The book takes on a twofold objective: to understand how many of today's problems have roots whose branches extend back in time, and to draw, from the lessons of history, useful insights for endowing the European Union with an ambitious agricultural and rural development policy, suited to the challenges ahead.…
