First Edition. Octavo, pp 349 plus appendices. Red cloth covered hard boards with gilt lettering and decoration to spine. With original dust jacket, unclipped (50/- net). Liberally illustrated with b/w photo plates. Foreword by David Brown. Detailed history of Aston Martin's road and racing cars from 1921 up to 1957. The pre-war history has been compiled from earlier research and writings by Inman Hunter and F.E. Ellis. The post-war history written by Dudley Coram. The Book is in Very Good condition, some spotting to endpapers and a few small marks on the boards; the jacket is also Very Good with some light wear mainly to the head of the spine. An excellent resource, and certainly the most comprehensive book on the early history of this great British performance car manufacturer. The book is inscribed and SIGNED by multiple people closely associated with Aston Martin in the 1950's: "To _______ with very best wishes from Eric Thompson, Peter Clark, Mortimer Morris-Goodall, Angela Abecassis, Liz Thompson" and the inscription dated 25.11.96. Eric Thompson was a racing driver who raced for the Aston Martin works team at Le Mans from 1950 to 1953, coming third overall in 1951. Peter Clark also drove for Aston, racing a DB2 at Le Mans in 1951 and 1952. Mort Goodall was the founder of the Aston Martin Owner's Club and a long time Aston racer driving at Le Mans ten times. Angela Abecassis, née Brown, was the daughter of David Brown who owned the company from 1947 to 1972 and lent his initials to the most legendary series of Aston Martin cars; she married racing driver George Abecassis and raced a DB3 herself in the 1950's. Liz Thompson was Eric's wife, she worked for the Aston Martin racing team in the 1950's as a time keeper. Overall an interesting collection of signatories, all closely associated with Aston in the early days of John Wyer and David Brown. N° de réf. du vendeur B5054
