The Feb 5, 1979 issue of Time Magazine featured Deng Xiaoping on the cover. At the time Xiaoping was traveling in the United States with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Woodcock. Woodcock was the United States liaison to China - the de facto ambassador since formal relations with China would not be established until later in the month. Once formal relations were established, Woodcock was named ambassador. When the magazine came out, Mrs. Woodcock asked Deng Xiaoping to sign a copy and that is the copy we are offering. It comes with a letter from Mrs. Woodcock confirming this.Deng Xiaoping (spelled Teng on the magazine) became the leader of China in the late 1970s - see the lengthy article on him in Wikipedia. It mentions Deng Xiaoping's visit to the United States in 1979.
