Burgundy Morocco Padded Leather Boards with Gilt blocked County Crest and gilt titles to front, 235 x 190 mm approx. Gilt ruled turn ins, marbled end papers. 34pp. 5 pp of line drawings. Author not attributed but we have presumed as being Alderman Matthew Holland as note to reverse of title states that the booklet was conceived and prepared in the Spring of 1957 when he was then Chairman but died unexpectedly prior to publication. It traces the history of education in the county from charitable / voluntary status to time of writing and was published to celebrate 100 years of education in Nottinghamshire and to mark the opening of the "Thieves Wood" Exhibition in September of that year by The Rt. Hon Viscount Hailsham, Q.C.,then Minister of Education. (The late Conservative M.P. Quintin Hogg). Presentation copy especially bound and presented Viscount Hailsham. Very Good (Book- no notable shelf wear or soiling to leather, 1 cm nick to bottom of free front end paper and extreme margins of paper to book block tanned. No other notable defects). The booklet was in all probability not printed for general circulation or sale but solely for distribution to Council Staff and attendees of the exhibition and appears now to be uncommon.
