A remarkable survival of Daniel Defoe Robinson Crusoe, issued in Cooke Cheap and Elegant Pocket Library, circa 1797, preserved here as a complete set in its original printed wrappers and housed in a custom morocco leather solander case.

Originally issued as part of Cooke innovative late eighteenth century publishing programme, these pocket editions were intended for everyday readership and wide circulation. As such, the vast majority were read to destruction, rebound, or discarded entirely. Complete survivals in original wrappers are exceptionally rare.

This set comprises the complete sequence of parts, each retaining its original printed wrapper, with typographic catalogues to the versos listing other titles within the Cooke series. The ephemeral nature of these paper wrappers makes their survival particularly significant, as they were never intended to endure beyond initial use.

The parts are now preserved in a custom morocco leather solander case, providing both protection and an appropriate level of presentation for an object of this rarity.

Of particular note, this set was acquired from Pirages Fine Books, one of the leading rare book dealers in the United States, who confirmed the exceptional rarity of a complete survival of this work in original parts and wrappers. While individual parts and incomplete groupings are occasionally encountered, complete sets such as this are of the highest rarity.

Internally, the parts show expected wear consistent with age and format, including edge wear, creasing and some loss to wrapper extremities. The text remains clean and legible throughout, with engraved illustrations present.
