First printing of the true first edition, published in 1933. An enlarged version of four of Maynard Keynes' articles that were previously printed in The Times between 13th of March and 16th of March 1933, in advance of the upcoming London Economic Conference to be held in June and July of that year - making a case for counter-cyclical public spending. ***Very good in pale blue-green card covers with a sewn binding. The covers have some uneven browning and creasing commensurate with age and handling, but remain untorn. The light creasing of the covers also affects the fore-edge and the bottom corner of the page block throughout the book, but is not too noticeable. Internally the pamphlet is in very good shape, with no inscriptions or annotations. The pages are clean and white with no foxing or offsetting. A fragile publication. ***223mm x 150mm. 40 pages including three pages advertising previously published works by Maynard Keynes at the back. ***Contents: Chapter I. - The Nature of the Problem, II. Internal Expansion, III. The Raising of Prices, IV. A Proposal for the World Economic Conference, V. The International Note Issue and the Gold Standard, VI. Conclusion. ***'At the height of the Great Depression, in 1933, Keynes published "The Means to Prosperity", which contained specific policy recommendations for tackling unemployment in a global recession, chiefly counter-cyclical public spending. "The Means to Prosperity" contains one of the first mentions of the multiplier effect. While it was addressed chiefly to the British Government, it also contained advice for other nations affected by the global recession. A copy was sent to the newly elected President Franklin D. Roosevelt and other world leaders. The work was taken seriously by both the American and British governments, and according to Robert Skidelsky, helped pave the way for the later acceptance of Keynesian ideas, though it had little immediate practical influence. In the 1933 London Economic Conference opinions remained too diverse for a unified course of action to be agreed upon' (Wiki)' ***An uncommon first edition by John Maynard Keynes - published in pamphlet form, and so hard to find now in collectable condition. A fragile production. Of interest to collectors of the work of John Maynard Keynes, and books on the economics of the Inter-war period. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. N° de réf. du vendeur 8447
