A good copy of an uncommon book. Gustav Adolph Techow (1813 - 1890) was during his career an officer in the Prussian Army, German revolutionary, democrat, and gymnastics educator in Australia. He was serving with Herman von Natzmer at the Berlin arsenal when it was stormed by the citizens of Berlin angered over the revocation of the German constitution and the dissolution of National Assembly on 14 June 1848. Natzmer became a hero to insurrectionists all across Europe in 1848 and 1849 because he refused to order his troops to fire on the insurgents when the arsenal was stormed. In 1849, Techow followed Natzmer to the Palatinate where Techow became Chief of the General Staff of the Baden-Palatinate insurgent army. Following the suppression of the uprising in Badena and the Palatinate, Techow escaped to Switzerland. In 1852, he emigrated with Natzmer to Australia, becoming an instructor and author on the subject of physical exercise. N� de r�f. du vendeur 032959

The proprietor, Andrew Long, has climbed the world over since 1980, and has spent much of his time over the (last few) years, collecting and reading climbing and travel narratives by more intrepid writers. He will be happy to answer any queries or provide advice on condition, approximate value, rarity or just plain readability free of charge. A booksearch service is available. Although we are a mail order store, visitors are most welcome to browse our stock by making an appointment.
