One of 150, 150, and 100 copies respectively. Three quarto volumes (28.5cm-30.5cm); mimeographed sheets (rectos only), gathered between taupe, orange, and indigo card covers, horizontally stapled along upper edges, with titling and illustrations silkscreened in different colors on front covers; [18]; [18]; [17]pp. Light wear to extremities, a few faint creases to rear wrappers, a few tiny tears, with a small, faint splash mark to lower right corner of the Sausalito program; contents fresh, a few pages with minor holograph notations (presumed editorial); a uniformly Near Fine group.A complete set of this collection of poems, produced between January-March, 1957, for poetry readings at the Six Gallery, Sausalito Little Theater, and Town Hall Theater all of them Bay Area performance spaces where some of the pivotal readings of the Beat Generation took place. These volumes, produced in small numbers, were printed specifically as programs to accompany the poetry readings. Poet and publisher Gerd Stern (1928-2025), after breaking up with Maya Angelou, met and married Ann London, and the two formed a poetry group called "The Seven Stray Cats." The Cats, all of them Bay Area figures with ties to Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs and others, included Stern, Michael Grieg, Laura Uronovitz, Robert Stock, Jack Gilbert, Carol Christopher Drake, and Jean McLean, with London being the eighth cat with work present in the Berkeley and Sausalito programs. Each of the programs contains several pages of poems by each contributor, with some overlapping content, and some unique content. All variations of the program are infrequently found in commerce, often in poor condition, and under-represented in several major poetry collections in the U.S. OCLC shows holdings for 7 (in San Francisco), 4 (in Berkeley), and 3 (in Sausalito) copies respectively, with no member institutions holding all three. 8331.
