A very good and complete first edition of Shackleton's South. The book has its original dark blue cloth boards with the ship design on the front which is in extraordinarily good condition. Gilt lettering on the spine is faded. The binding is firm, with some natural wear at the hinges but nothing loose or broken.

Inside, the pages are clean and bright for a book of this age with the browning as typically seen. The browning while present is not as severe as many examples. All plates are present. The large fold out map is attached, intact, and in good condition with a tape repair as per photograph. The errata slip is in place. There is a neat inscription dated Xmas 1917 on the front endpaper. Several pages show normal age toning, but there are no major defects and no writing anywhere in the book
