Item description from seller

Vesalius College: 25 Years of Academic Excellence in Teaching and Research, edited by William L. Chew III and Bert Mosselmans. Brussels: VUBPress / Brussels University Press, 2012. First edition. English text. 408 pages. Published to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of Vesalius College in Brussels, this substantial academic volume brings together essays reflecting the college’s international and interdisciplinary tradition in teaching and research. Rather than functioning merely as an institutional history, the book presents a wide-ranging collection of scholarly contributions addressing European politics and integration, international relations, economics, gender and governance, journalism, media, education and contemporary social issues. Contributors and subjects include Alison Woodward on gender and informal governance, Michel Huysseune on Euroscepticism and the Lega Nord, and Leo Van Hove on the economic and social implications of payment systems and the move away from cash. The individual studies make the volume useful not only as a record of Vesalius College’s first quarter-century, but also as a snapshot of European and international scholarship in Brussels in the early twenty-first century. An uncommon institutional and academic publication of particular interest to alumni and scholars of Vesalius College, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, European Studies, International Relations, Political Science, Economics and Higher Education. Bibliographical references included. ISBN 978-90-5718-130-6. AbeBooks Condition Description Very Good. Clean and well-preserved softcover copy. Binding firm and square; page block clean and compact. Interior pages appear clean, with no highlighting, underlining or annotations observed in the pages examined. Only light normal shelf and handling wear to the covers and extremities. No major creases, tears or structural damage visible. Photographs show the actual copy offered for sale and form part of the condition description.

Description de la boutique

Welcome to my carefully curated collection of second-hand, vintage and collectible books, based in Leuven, Belgium. I am a private bookseller and lifelong book lover with a particular interest in unusual, distinctive and hard-to-find titles. My collection is eclectic and includes literature, philosophy, history, art and design, film and cultural studies, science, psychology, travel, Belgian and European history, vintage editions, illustrated books and other specialist non-fiction. I particularly enjoy finding books that deserve to be rediscovered: overlooked editions, unusual publications, books on niche subjects and attractive older volumes that may be difficult to find in ordinary bookshops. Every book offered here is individually inspected. I aim to describe editions and condition carefully and honestly, including significant signs of age, wear, inscriptions, missing components or other imperfections whenever applicable. Photographs show the actual book whenever possible. Books are stored with care and securely packaged for shipping. I am happy to sell internationally and welcome collectors, researchers and readers from around the world. If you have a question about an edition, its condition, contents or additional photographs, please feel free to contact me through AbeBooks. Thank you for browsing my collection, and I hope you find a book here that has been waiting for exactly the right reader. A note about our shipping rates At The Second Chapter, we know that international shipping costs can sometimes seem high, particularly for destinations outside Belgium and neighbouring countries. We deliberately use reliable, traceable shipping with Track & Trace whenever possible. This is important for both you as the buyer and us as the bookseller: your order can be followed throughout its journey, and there is clear confirmation that the parcel has been delivered. Many of the books we offer are scarce, collectible, out-of-print or otherwise difficult to replace. For that reason, we prefer not to send valuable books using cheaper untracked postal services, where neither buyer nor seller can reliably determine what has happened if a parcel is delayed or lost. Our shipping charges therefore reflect the actual cost of secure postal shipment from Belgium (Bpost) rather than being used as an additional source of profit. We always package books carefully to protect them during their journey, and we aim to combine safe packaging, reliable delivery and transparent shipping costs. If you are interested in a book but feel that the quoted shipping cost to your country is unusually high, please feel free to contact us before ordering. Where the book’s weight, dimensions, value and destination allow it, we will gladly check whether a less expensive reliable shipping option is available. Thank you for supporting The Second Chapter and for giving pre-loved books another chapter in their story.
