Published in 1967, Intrepid 9 featured three Charles Bukowski poems: A Bad Night - Blame The Bourbon From The Dept. Of English Poem For The Death Of An American Serviceman In Vietnam A Bad Night - Blame The Bourbon has yet to be published again. From The Dept. Of English and Poem For The Death Of An American Serviceman In Vietnam would both appear in The Days Run Away Like Wild Horses Over The Hills (1969). From The Dept. Of English would also appear in the CD recording At Terror Street and Agony Way (1998). Contributors include LeRoi Jones, Ted Enslin, Joel Oppenheimer and Jack Micheline. Bukowski would appear in seven issues of Intrepid between 1966 and 1972. Edited by Allen De Loach in New York (issues 1-5) and then Buffalo (issues 6-41), Intrepid (1964-1980) published a large number of poets directly and indirectly associated with the New American Poetry, and especially Beat writers. Contributors included a long list of such influential figures as Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, LeRoi Jones (Amiri Baraka), Philip Whalen, William Burroughs, Diane di Prima, Charles Bukowski, Ted Berrigan, Gary Snyder, Ted Enslin, and Charles Olson. A consistent issue with Intrepid was the length of the staples in the binding, due to the thick, textured covers. Sometimes the staples barely make it through the back cover, other times the staples don t. This copy is in Very Good ++ condition, with the bottom staple missing and the other two staples barely making it through the back cover. Future owner should handle with care.
