Gompagni-like Dante-sided with the Whites and, after their defeat in 1301, was barred from public office. La copertina in carta brunita dal tempo presenta una lacuna (vedi fotografia); bordi e barbe in ottime condizioni, pagine affatto ingiallite. Compagni, fu uomo politico e scrittore. Fu tra l'altro due volte priore, nel 1289, quando si ebbe la vittoria di Campaldino, e nel 1301, al momento dell'ingresso in Firenze, come paciere, di Carlo di Valois, del quale egli ebbe a sperimentare dolorosamente la malafede (evitò l'esilio fruendo di una disposizione che non permetteva la condanna di chi avesse da meno di un anno ricoperto il priorato); gonfaloniere di giustizia nel 1293 e, prima, console nell'arte della seta, capitano di Orsanmichele, consigliere del Comune. L'opera cui è legato il suo nome è la Cronica delle cose occorrenti ne' tempi suoi, che abbraccia la storia di Firenze dal 1280 al 1312, assai significativa per la sincerità e la passione con cui il C. esprime il suo sdegno di uomo onesto e amante della patria contro i politicanti della fazione dei Neri: atteggiamento analogo, ma più ingenuo e limitato, a quello di Dante nella Commedia. Il prezzo del libro è comprensivo delle spese di confezionamento e spedizione mediante raccomandata tracciabile.…
